About the author

Hey there! I'm David Menon and welcome to my Amazon home where I publish all of my crime fiction.
There are the Blackpool Crime thrillers, 'In the Shadow of the Tower' and 'Murder of the Unwanted' featuring DI Layla Khan.
Then there are the Australian Crime thrillers featuring Detective Jason Farrell and set in the fictional New South Wales town of Kingsbrook. These include 'The Final Hours', 'Destined for Murder', 'The Darkness in Him', and 'Don't Answer the Phone'.
There are also the stand alone Manchester Crime thrillers. 'Who Are the Bad Guys?' is a very much contemporary story with a sharp international political edge, whilst 'The Wild Heart' is a love story set against the gravest danger as someone's past catches up with them.
I've also published the series of Manchester set Crime thrillers featuring Detective Jeff Barton.
I like to give you a good entertaining read that will leave you guessing with twists and turns until the very end.
When I'm not writing I love my music and I'm mainly into soft rock. My favourite songwriter and performer is Stevie Nicks. I love to watch a good drama on TV and my favourite food is Indian, closely followed by French. I've travelled extensively and hope to do more in the future. I currently live on the Fylde coast in the UK and I'm of mixed English/Indian heritage. Oh and I once made a cheese sandwich for the actress Julia Roberts.
Thank you for taking an interest in me and my work.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 August 2015Padraig O’Connell has been brutally murdered. When Detective Superintendent Jeff Barton & his team begin to work the case they have no idea what a can of worms it will open.
Patricia Knight has been living in Australia for forty years and her husband knows nothing of his wife’s past involvement with the IRA or the bloody lengths to which she went to further the cause. Until a visit from the police informs her of her brother’s murder.
Patricia has little choice but to come clean about her past. Her revelations turn her husband’s world upside down and threaten to shatter everything her silence has created and which she holds dear.
Trying to cope in the wake of DI Rebecca Stockton’s death, Jeff throws himself into the case but when romance presents itself will he finally learn from past hesitations and embrace it?
Yet again David Menon successfully draws us into Jeff’s world with a brilliantly plotted thriller and a story with many shocks and revelations. I simply can’t understand why this author and series do not attract the acclaim they deserve. I know very little about the Troubles but this is a deeply emotive story because, although David Menon does not shy away from controversy, he takes care to present the story from both sides of the sectarian divide.
I will now suffer acute withdrawal until the next Jeff Barton book comes out.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 15 June 2016I have enjoyed all the DSI Barton books. The stories are all great and you really want to know what's next. However I think you need to get a new proof reader, the Grammar and mistakes in wording is quite annoying .
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 August 2015I liked the story. "Thrown Down" by David Menon was nicely written, AS A STORY. Pity about the off-putting bits. The characters spoke exactly as I would have expected them to talk in real life and the whole story was interesting and exciting, although it did taper off a little bit at the end. I'm not sure whether it was rushed to meet a deadline or not, but the editing and proofreading was way off the mark, which was a shame because it did put a bit of a damper on the whole thing. PLUS, why was it showing on Kindle with two or three spaces between the lines? leaving just twelve written lines to a Kindle page.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 September 2015Really enjoyed this book. Based around the troubles in Ireland, and it's aftermath for different families. Quite raw in places, but as realistic as we used to hear on the daily news channels at the time. A great read, and thoroughly enjoyed the way it was written and the personal sub plots too.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 July 2017Enjoyed reading David's other titles but unfortunately didn't find the subject matter interesting and gave up half way through.
I also found the design of the book very amateur.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 August 2015I have liked this series - partly perhaps because having lived in Manchester for some time, the locations are familiar to me. I liked this one as well, but I thought the ending was a bit "woolly" - perhaps to set us up for the next in the series??!! I won't give the ending away, but if you liked the rest of the series then you will enjoy this one as well!!
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 29 July 2015I thought this story built really well and kept the suspense going right to the end. I think the characters are becoming more rounded with each new book, with greater depth and more colour. Having said that, you don't need to have read the previous books to grasp the essence of the principals in the story.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 August 2015This had the makings of a great tale, it has all the ingredients murder, forbidden love, betrayal, who's the father really ? Agents and double agents, the IRA, duplicitous British Special Branch and good honest cops trying to piece it all together whilst kept in the dark by the spooks. Where it lacked was what I saw as clumsy attempts to make all the bit players more interesting. Policemen as fictional characters do have backgrounds that often develop in book series, but extending this character development to almost every character gets in the way of the otherwise good storyline. The proof reading was wanting and the kindle page formatting was wrong in that my copy had double line spacing (perhaps waiting for the editor's marking)

2.0 out of 5 stars Needed better editing
An interesting and compelling plot but the character development was only middling. I would recommend it to people interested in mystery thrillers. I gave the book a poor rating because of the lack of sufficient editing, not the authors fault I think, but also because of the limited character development.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pick Up "Thrown Down"? .. Maybe
"Thrown Down" is more of a thriller than detecting story. The primary plot which involves the IRA/ Northern Ireland era as it plays into current times is interesting and makes the novel very readable. Unfortunately, some of the side stories are cumbersome and poorly crafted(e.g. the romance between the protagonist and the lady detective from Australia. She incidentally plays no real role except to provide a basis for the flimsy side story.). Additionally, some of the dialogue is almost embarrassingly banal. "Beauty is only skin deep" and " I am interested in you, not what you are wearing" are examples which cause the reader to wince. Incidentally, the editing is incomplete, which can also be a source of annoyance. If one puts aside some of the jarring negatives, it is basically an interesting work.
